Diamond and Jewelry Options for Minimalists, Part 2

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the basics and popular ring styles within the minimalist realm of jewelry and engagement rings. Minimalism is an approach to life and possessions that’s growing in popularity in recent years, and some enjoy it across numerous areas, including a potential engagement or fashion ring.

As we noted in part one, minimalism in jewelry can be expressed in several ways – here are a couple more categories when it comes to minimalist ring styles to consider, either for yourself or a loved one.

High-Sparkle Minimalist Themes

As we noted in part one, minimalism often revolves around limiting possessions and reliance on them as defining elements in our lives. Many take this to mean overt simplicity, and while simple themes do indeed play a big role in minimalism, it’s important to note this doesn’t cover the entire pursuit.

With this in mind, while minimalist rings are commonly less sparkly and shiny than other types, that doesn’t meant they can’t have any sparkle at all. Here are a few great options that are still minimalist while also infusing in some sparkle and shine:

• Hidden halos: Also called “peek-a-boo” halos or accents, hidden halos are limited versions of the traditional halo setting, which is highly sparkly. They’re accents meant to be seen from the sides of a ring’s vantage point rather than from the higher birds-eye view.
• Other side stones: There are several other great options when it comes to adorning the sides of a ring with stones, whether three, five or some other number that increase sparkle without being too overbearing.
• Limited accents: In other cases, using studded accents for the side of the ring’s shank is ideal. Avoid doing this on the bottom, as this may risk stones impacting other objects and falling out.

Hybrid Designs

In addition, there are several hybrid “dainty” designs that are highly popular today. These offer a fantastic blend between simple minimalism and high sparkle, including a few common options:

• Added metal: If you don’t want to add the expense of accent stones, plus want to keep the design as simple as possible, you might consider metalwork with various patterns for your shank accents.
• Shank thickness: A great way to introduce minimalist themes to an existing ring style is to go for a thinner shank, which makes the center stone look as large as possible while limiting the size of the band on the finger.
• Multi-prong: For very simple minimalist rings, you might add small details like a multiple-prong option to the center stone, which brings just a bit more attention without too much dazzle.
